Parkins Plastic Surgery
Sitting on the shores of Silver Lake, the new Parkins Plastic Surgery office and surgery center capitalizes on its location with views to the lake from waiting areas, consultation and exam rooms.
In order to transform an existing two-story restaurant into a cosmetic surgery Clinic with a free-standing day surgery meeting AAAASF Class C Standards, the interior was gutted. The project required extensive structural modifications due to do existing structural issues and a full MEP overhaul to meet the stringent requirements of a healthcare clinic setting with OR suite.
On the main level, translucent glass doors on all of the exam/consult rooms and additional interior windows capitalize on the views and pull daylight into the building corridors and staff spaces. Custom concrete tile clads the lower level fireplace wall. A soft, sophisticated interior palette provides a serene and spa-like experience. Layering of lighting also creates an atmosphere less like a clinic and more akin to a hospitality environment. Lighting and finishes were critical in areas where existing lower level structural elements limited ceiling heights.
Work on the exterior was limited to doors, lighting, and signage because the building’s proximity to the lake restricted expansion beyond the existing footprint. This also limited the ability to add an elevator or lift to make the building accessible.
As a solution, the lower floor features four consult rooms as well as office, staff, and support spaces. Also on the lower level, a double height waiting and entry area greets guests with a custom display unit and a fireplace. The first floor includes four additional consult and office space, three exam rooms, a full OR Suite, and three pre/post op recovery rooms. Additional waiting, staff, and support spaces are housed on this floor to support the OR and exam rooms. Planning for future growth, consult and exam rooms were kept small to allow for an additional physician without adding onto the building.
