In the fall of 2006, OPN Architects embarked upon the design a 9,500 sf stand-alone maintenance facility for semi-trucks in Des Moines. The project was complete and in operation just one year later.

Interior common areas include a lobby, public toilets, and vertical circulation and office spaces. Each was carefully considered as individual components that added up to the whole of the overall design solution. In keeping with the Housby branding, red was used as a central element to the design, further emphasizing the dynamic bulls-eye target logo of the company. The color also ties the exterior and interior elements together and works well with the tools and equipment that are integral to the truck lube process. The building was designed to offer two maintenance station bays. The site plan was designed to retain plenty of staging space in the parking lot for waiting vehicles.

The exterior features insulated pre-cast concrete panels and pre-finished aluminum composite panels to energize and highlight entries. Eight-foot modules of aluminum curtain wall and pre-cast concrete establish a rhythm that continues around the lobby and provides natural light in the public spaces.
