Krause Gateway Center Popular Choice in Architizer A+ Awards
Krause Gateway Center, designed in collaboration with Renzo Piano Building Workshop, was selected as a Popular Choice in the 2020 Architizer A+ Awards.
Five finalists in each category are selected and are featured on Architizer’s website based on excellence in form and function in more than 70 categories. Krause Gateway Center was a finalist in the Office Mid-Rise (5-15 Floors) and Architecture + Engineering categories. It won Popular Choice in the Office Mid-Rise category.
The Architizer A+Awards is the largest awards program focused on promoting and celebrating the year’s best architecture and products. Its mission is to nurture the appreciation of meaningful architecture in the world and champion its potential for a positive impact on everyday life.
The five-story Krause Gateway Center features wall-to-wall expanses of glass to allow natural light into the building and views out to the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Garden and skyline of Downtown Des Moines. The focal point of the modern design is its light-filled lobby encased by 29-foot-tall glass panels, which were the second tallest in North America at the time of installation. OPN was the architect of record in collaboration with design architect Renzo Piano Building Studio.
The project – constructed by Ryan Companies – has also received an Excellence in Craft Award from AIA Iowa (2019), Excellence in Concrete Award from Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association; Building Team Award, Building Design+Construction magazine and a Masters Award from Master Builders of Iowa.
