The site development around the new Applied Engineering Building – formerly known as the Industrial Technology Center, will transform the south campus and reconnect students and activities across University Avenue, which bi-sects the existing campus. By raising the building vertically and pronouncing the primary elevation, the building establishes a presence and visibility from the main thoroughfare of the campus.
The design expresses transparency from outside the facility to highlight the structure, MEP systems, technical equipment, and most importantly the exciting and important work done by students and faculty members alike. Through this expression, the building can become a learning tool for the students within, but also offer outward exposure to the rest of the campus.
Renovations and additions to the Applied Engineering Building will increase laboratory and project space to accommodate growing program needs. Spaces will be right-sized to support faculty, staff, and students now and in the future. Building spaces will be connected by shared project spaces and collaboration areas. The entire facility will be provided with infrastructure systems that allow for maximum flexibility to support future program changes and modifications.
