OPN Architects, Inc. was retained to design Union Drive Suite Building 2, now titled Martin Hall, which was the third-phase of a new four-phase residential neighborhood complex on the Iowa State University main campus.
With the completed first-phase construction of the Union Drive Suite Building 1 and the second-phase construction of the new community center, Suite Building 2 followed the same design parameters originally defined in the overall master plan of the Union Drive Association Neighborhood. Maintaining a traditional, collegiate appearance and complementing the adjacent Friley Residence Hall and State Gym, Martin Hall reinforced its image as a primary component in this residential neighborhood development.
Exterior finish materials included brick, stone, sloped asphalt roofs, copper gutters and dormers, and double hung aluminum windows. The student room configuration consisted of two, 2-student sleeping rooms with a shared private bath. The facility is five levels with 315 beds.
