OPN Architects’ relationship with John Deere dates back more than 20 years. In 2009, OPN was hired for an expansion project to the previously completed John Deere Credit building in Johnston, Iowa. The project included the addition of office space to accommodate a growing workforce — the addition is connected to the original structure via a skywalk and courtyard. The courtyard mends the two buildings through hardscapes and softscapes. Paved circulation pathways stretch across the campus, weaving between vegetation with benches strategically sprinkled throughout for moments of pause and meditation. Large windows allow the landscaped grounds to be viewed from the interior offices, connecting employees with nature.
