James H. La Rue Library first opened in 2001 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.  As part of a county-wide update, OPN was retained to update James H. La Rue library to Douglas County’s newest library locations which opened in 2016.  The library underwent a $6.4 million renovation which touched every portion of the existing interior space.  The new design  brought a more open interior and increased natural lighting.  New shade structures were added to terraces on the second floor overlooking the adjacent Civic Green Park.

The first floor of the library is primarily dedicated to children and families.  New features include interactive areas for children including an expanded farm to table market playscape and kids corner storytime space.  In addition, there are dedicated spaces available for tutoring, and patrons have the ability to borrow a laptop using their library card. The second floor offers event space accommodating up to 350 guests.
