Iowa Bankers Association
The design of the a new headquarters for the Iowa Banker’s Association, the nation’s largest banking association, needed to reflect the same qualities of the organization’s members: steadfast, transparent, and welcoming.
The design also needed to be accomplished on an economical budget. Programmed and designed before the pandemic, and constructed in 2020, the 60,000-square-foot building cost $19.5 million, or just $325 per square foot.
The design team creatively uses a traditional and cost-effective precast covered with a veneer of thin brick a key areas to keep costs down while also achieving the clients aesthetic goals. Windows are also strategically placed to disguise seams while also playing a critical role in the building’s interior design.
A central glass core and glass front offices bring natural light deep into the building. Wood, like the golden masonry on the exterior, warms the interior, which is brightened by the light and pops of blue throughout.
