Dakota Surgical Center
The new ambulatory surgery center facility includes four operating rooms — two standard, one specialty, and one oversized — as well as 15 pre/post recovery beds. The clinic component includes 16 exam rooms with space for future growth.
Designed to accommodate up to 6 rotating physicians/surgeons with a variety/flexibility of offerings: general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, and hand surgeries, this facility layout and aesthetics put operations, patient experience, and wayfinding first.
Clear, circular, and spacious circulation paths for nurses and physicians allow for optimal care and flexibility. Entrances are highlighted with a warm materials to welcome patients and visitors and queue wayfinding. The primary entrance vestibule allows one to circulate to either the ASC or check-in with the clinic.
The material palette, both interior and exterior, work together to reflect the historical and natural landscapes of western North Dakota. Biophilic design concepts are fully integrated which aid in patient and staff comfort, recovery, and well-being.
The project was delivered by a developer/construction manager and architect team to provide a turn-key high-quality facility on an ambitious schedule, while being budget conscious. The design-build process helped this group navigate the project with minimal time commitments, not disrupting their practice.
