Michael Booth

Originally from the Twin Cities, Michael graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelors of Science in Architectural Studies. Michael enjoys working in architecture because it allows him to create a tangible product you can touch, occupy, and share with loved ones. Since the majority of people spend their time indoors, architects are given the opportunity to go beyond simply providing shelter, and creating spaces that can enhance quality of life. It is a great responsibility to be entrusted with millions of dollars to create a building that will live in the community for up to a century.

1. What inspires your work?

I find design to be most successful when there is a strong concept behind a building, to guide decision making and overall aesthetic. Nature often inspires these concepts for me.

2. When did you know you wanted to be an architect or designer?

When I was about 6 my Dad took me to his office in Minneapolis. It was the first time I was really struck by the built environment. We got to the 42nd floor. I ran up to the window, jumped on the sill, pressed my nose against the glass, and stared out over the city. I recall tiny ant sized people making their way through the streets, an endless supply of unique buildings to look at, and the skyway system that connects them all. When I got home I told my Mom I wanted to be an Architect when I grew up, and she laughed.
