Dakota Dehnke

A new ISU alum with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, Dakota also minored in Sustainability. He has completed two Architectural internships in the Des Moines area, where he has resided since 2010. Previously, Dakota lived in River Falls, Wisconsin.

Dakota enjoys the design process. Although many steps, he likes getting to work through them all, watching designs go from a mere concept to a built space that people can use and experience for themselves. And with that, is inspired by the ability as designers to create spaces that can have a genuine impact on the well-being of people and the environment. “We aren’t just making buildings; we are impacting the lives of everyone who use the spaces we design.”

Q: When did you know you wanted to be an architect or designer?

A: Architecture has given me the opportunity to combine two things that I have always been interested in as a I grew up, those things being construction and art. Once I understood that Architecture in itself is a form of art, the art of building making or space making, I knew that it was what I wanted to do.

Q: If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: I could eat pasta for the rest of my life easily. As one of the most versatile food bases the possibilities are endless.
