Landon Burg, Malorie Hepner, and Brett Rottinghaus build on strong foundations as Associate Principals

OPN Architects looks to future as Cedar Rapids and Madison studios welcome new Associate Principals: Landon Burg, Malorie Hepner, and Brett Rottinghaus.

A life-long resident of Eastern Iowa, Landon Burg has been a leader in OPN’s Cedar Rapids and Iowa City offices for more than a decade. Landon takes a research-driven approach to projects, seeking out best practices to inform the project design. He believes architecture is a thoughtful blend of science and art that requires rigorous attention to details and ideas. Landon co-leads OPN’s public safety team as a fire station planner and architect, including the national and international award-winning Marion Fire Station No. 1.

Malorie Hepner was one of the first employees to join the then newly opened Madison studio in 2014. Her portfolio includes a variety of corporate, commercial, and higher education projects. She is also one of OPN’s most experienced designers of labs, both research and teaching. A natural problem solver and relationship builder, Malorie’s super power is solving the riddles presented by occupied, phased, renovations. She is a master of making lemonade out of lemons, finding spatial solutions and solving challenges presented by tight budgets.

Brett Rottinghaus was OPN’s second employee in Madison. Beginning his career in our Cedar Rapids studio, he helped found the Madison office in 2013. Brett’s experience is varied, with a focus on public projects, including multiple libraries and K-12 schools. Though every community is unique and comes with its own set of needs, goals, and opportunities, Brett’s creativity and general likability allows him to navigate seemingly complicated issues with ease to guide a community to a design that reflects and works for them.
