Archello Awards Finalist: Flint Public Library

The longlist celebrates the very best building products, architecture projects, and firms selected from over 1,000 entries for the second edition of Archello’s annual awards program. The 51 categories recognize outstanding buildings and interiors in recently completed projects, spanning from housing, offices, schools, and healthcare to leisure, mixed use, industrial, and public buildings.

After decades of economic challenges, a local water crisis that gained national attention could have brought a community to its knees. Instead, the community of Flint, Michigan, chose to look to the future. Under the banner of #FlintForward, civic leaders and community members continue to champion for their city and each other. The transformation of the Flint Public Library is a symbol of that resiliency. In re-using the existing building, the community made the most sustainable choice possible. The project also embodies many of the principles identified in the AIA Framework for Design Excellence.
