Design for exploration’s sake at OPN Masterclass at Iowa State University

During this year’s OPN Masterclass at Iowa State University, 50 architecture students began their spring semester with a week of intensive workshops led by Cooper Union’s New York-based architect, writer and educator David Gersten and co-collaborator at Arts Letters & Numbers Associate Director Frida Foberg.
Held from Jan. 13 to 17 this year, fifth annual event sponsored by OPN Architects, brings globally recognized figures within the architecture field to hold a small workshop with Iowa State architecture students. This year’s class – – Design for Exploration’s Sake — challenged students to design without a known outcome.
One of Arts Letters & Numbers’ primary activities is educational workshops that ask participants to think with “creative urgency and intensity of purpose” in order to spark inspiration and imagination, and design with outside-of-the-box ideas.
