OPN’s Tate Walker presents COTE Toolkit at Living Future unConference

OPN Architects Sustainability Director Tate Walker will sit on a panel discussion with seven co-authors of The COTE Top Ten Toolkit at the Living Future unConference 2019  from

The Living Future unConference is the epicenter for sustainability thought leaders from firms across the country or allied disciplines. This technical knowledge-oriented conference allows the green community to bring their unique industry expertise together.

Limited access to high-quality, concise, and usable information is a major barrier to the universal adoption of sustainable design, Walker says. The Toolkit was developed to make the guiding principles and metrics of the AIA COTE® Top Ten Awards program accessible to all projects as both a framework to guide the design of all projects as well as a benchmark after completion. With the goal of improving all projects, regardless of their circumstances, the recently released COTE Toolkit seeks to close the information gap and make sustainable design strategies accessible to all architects.

At the conference, Walker will be one of seven subject matter experts who will each share one high-impact, low-cost strategy that can elevate the performance of every project. He hopes that designers will walk away with an understanding that the Toolkit is meant to be customized to their needs, regions, communities.

“We developed this Toolkit for all architects but we encourage firms to add and individualize their toolkits because there are things that get generalized out when you are creating a toolkit for the whole country that aren’t able to speak to the specifics or regions or communities.” he says. “That’s a message we really want to get across.”

This will be Walker’s first time speaking at The Living Conference.
