With explosive growth and a desire to create a first class work environment, NCMIC Group, Inc. entrusted OPN Architects to design a 122,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in Clive, Iowa. The 14-acre site was selected for community accessibility and visibility. The 60-foot rise and fall across the site created a dramatic opportunity to site the building.

The building composition was a simple geometric expression of the programmed spaces and rotated axial connection with lake views to the north. The three-story structure was set into the hillside one level, establishing the connection of building and site. The longitudinal axis of the building is true east/west to maximize daylight penetration into the floor plates. Additional energy efficient design strategies produced a building that is 43% more energy efficient than that required by code.

The exterior materials are comprised mostly of brick and precast with extensive curtain wall cladding. The rotated axial spine is featured with a contrasting metal panel system.
