OPN’s Joe Tursi, incoming president of the American Institute of Architects Iowa Chapter, will lead the annual retreat in Cedar Rapids this Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17. The board of directors will gather for two days to discuss the AIA’s goals and budget for the coming year. Cedar Rapids was chosen as the retreat site due in large part to the city’s successful recovery efforts after the floods of 2008. Tursi will present on the floods of 2008, successful recovery efforts, and continued growth the corridor has experienced. The presentation will be accompanied by a walking tour of downtown Cedar Rapids.
“When I look at what we have accomplished as a community, to not only replace but improve our city, I think that is worth celebrating,” says Tursi. “I cannot think of a project that has taken place since the flood that is not a dramatic improvement over where we were pre-flood.”
Thursday’s events will end with a reception at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Click here to register to attend the SEIAS Reception with the AIA Iowa Board of Directors.
